Posterior Bite Blocks are acrylic platforms placed on the occlusal surfaces of posterior teeth to open the bite. They use natural occlusal forces to intrude posterior teeth or allow passive anterior eruption in open bite cases.
Components
• Posterior Acrylic Blocks — On maxillary or mandibular posterior teeth • Full-Arch Base — Acrylic base for retention • Adams Clasps — 0.8mm SS for retention • Flat Occlusal Surface — For even contact
How It Works
The blocks increase the vertical dimension by adding thickness to the posterior occlusion. Natural chewing forces intrude the posterior teeth (or prevent their eruption), while the anterior teeth are free to erupt, closing an anterior open bite.
Digital Workflow
1. Intraoral scan with bite at desired vertical 2. 3D-print model 3. Wax posterior blocks at prescribed height (typically 2-3mm) 4. Ensure anterior teeth are out of occlusion 5. Flask and process 6. QC: Block height, anterior clearance, clasp retention
