What Is It?

The Nance Space Maintainer combines a transpalatal arch with an anterior acrylic button that contacts the palatal rugae. It provides maximum posterior anchorage for space maintenance after bilateral maxillary primary molar loss.

• Bilateral Molar Bands — On maxillary first permanent molars • Transpalatal Arch — 1.2mm SS wire • Acrylic Button — 8-10mm diameter at anterior palate • Wire Connectors — 0.9mm SS wire from button to TPA

How It Works

The acrylic button pressing against the palatal rugae creates a physical stop that prevents the molars from drifting forward. This provides stronger anchorage than a band-and-loop or lingual arch alone.
