What Is It?

The Lingual Arch Space Maintainer uses bilateral molar bands connected by a lingual arch wire to maintain arch perimeter after bilateral premature loss of primary molars in the mandible.

02

Components

• Bilateral Molar Bands — On mandibular first permanent molars • Lingual Arch Wire — 1.0-1.2mm SS wire along lingual surfaces • Anterior Contact — Against lower incisor cingula • Solder Joints — At each band connection

03

How It Works

By connecting both molars with a rigid lingual arch wire, the appliance prevents mesial drift of the molars and maintains the total arch perimeter. The wire against the incisor cingula prevents anterior lingual tipping.

04

Digital Workflow

1. Intraoral scan 2. 3D-print model 3. Fit bands on both mandibular first molars 4. Bend 1.0-1.2mm SS lingual arch wire — contact incisor cingula 5. Solder to bands 6. QC: Wire clearance (0.5mm), incisor contact, band fit

05

Manufacturing Standard

• Wire: 1.0-1.2mm ASTM F899 SS • Bands: Preformed SS • Tissue clearance: 0.5mm from lingual mucosa • Incisor contact: Passive, cingulum level • QC: Wire position, bilateral band fit, solder quality
