The EMA (Elastic Mandibular Advancement) uses interchangeable elastic straps — rather than rigid connectors — to advance the mandible. With 9 strap lengths and 4 strengths (36 total combinations), it is the most customizable and TMJ-friendly MAD available.
Components
• Upper Tray — Thermoformed thermoplastic, lateral attachment posts • Lower Tray — Thermoformed thermoplastic, lateral attachment posts • Elastic Straps — 9 lengths × 4 strengths = 36 combinations • Interchangeable design — Straps replaced every 3-6 months
How It Works
Elastic straps connect the upper and lower trays at the canine/premolar region. Shorter straps = more advancement. The elastic nature allows significant lateral and vertical jaw movement during sleep — making it ideal for TMJ-sensitive patients and bruxers. Straps are replaced every 3-6 months as elastic fatigues.
Digital Workflow
1. Receive intraoral scans and protrusive bite 2. 3D-print working models 3. Thermoform upper and lower trays (1.5mm thermoplastic) 4. Attach lateral posts for strap connection 5. Trim and polish tray edges 6. Package with starter set of 9 strap lengths 7. QC: Post position, tray fit, strap attachment test
Manufacturing Standard
• Tray Material: Medical-grade thermoplastic, 1.5mm, BPA-free • Straps: Medical-grade elastic, latex-free option available • Posts: Stainless steel or reinforced polymer • Strap options: 9 lengths (short to long), 4 strengths (light to extra-firm) • QC: Tray fit verification, post pull-test, strap elasticity test
