What Is It?

The Lingual Arch is a 1.0-1.2mm stainless steel wire running along the lingual surfaces of the mandibular teeth, soldered to molar bands. It maintains arch length, preserves leeway space, and provides anchorage.

Components

• Lingual Wire — 1.0-1.2mm SS wire along lower lingual surfaces • Molar Bands — On mandibular first molars • Anterior Contact — Wire rests against lower incisor cingula • Solder Joints — Silver solder at band connections

How It Works

By connecting the left and right molars, the lingual arch prevents mesial drift. The wire positioned against incisor cingula prevents anterior lingual tipping. It passively maintains existing arch length and perimeter without active forces.
